Article Summary

“Viewpoint: Back out of blacking out” by Sarah Skaluba

Blacking out is considered as ‘normal’ in campus life, suggesting desensitization the possible danger and serious nature of black out. Blackng out is caused by one of three reasons: consuming alcohol too fast, not eating enough food before drinking, and excessive stress. All of those reasons are easily aroused from campus life, escalating possibility of black out when drinking alcohol. When black out occurs, the student can be subjected for sexual assault, injury, unprotected sex, and regret. Students need to take responsibility while they are drinking, and prevent possible black out which might lead to more serious consequence.

Tuition increases every year, which causes reasonable concern from students how their tuition is spent. While considerable amount of tuition is spent by yearly salary for University employee, tuition should be used to provide better education and direct benefit for the students. Salary increase is necessary to retain the best faculty and staff; however as the government funding sharply decreased, a large portion of faculty’s salaries come from the students’ tuition. The University needs to ensure the tuition spending should be necessary and in students’ best interest.
